Halcyon Multifunction Compensators
Regardless of whether you are
diving at 30 feet on a coral reef, 130 feet in a wreck or at 300 feet in a cave,
the key elements to diving are the same. Having an enjoyable dive remains the
goal while good buoyancy, proper trim, suitable weighting, efficient propulsion
and integrated life support are the fundamental skills that support safe and
enjoyable diving. Halcyon's Multifunction Compensator, the heart of this unique
diving system, is specifically designed to give divers a distinct advantage in
these critical areas.
Buoyancy:

The Halcyon MC System adjusts to every type of diving with the selection of the
proper buoyancy and weighting system. Buoyancy compensation is available in both
Eclipse and
Pioneer systems specifically designed to maximize single tank efficiency
while three sizes of
Explorer wings complement double tank streamlining.
Weighting:
The MC System incorporates the use of detachable and non-detachable weight,
adjusted specifically for each diver. The stainless backplate provides six
pounds of non-detachable weight evenly disbursed across the diver's back.
Alternatively, divers may choose the aluminum backplate when additional weight
is not necessary.
The Halcyon ACB Weighting System
now comes in sizes ranging from 12 pounds (six per side) to 30 pounds of
detachable weight while V-Weights and Keel Weights are available for additional
weight customization.
Trim:
The Halcyon MC System controls trim through the combination of weight
distribution and stability offered by the 5-point Secure Harness. Removing
weight from the waist not only prevents a sore lower back, but also shifts the
center of gravity up to the central torso and facilitates a streamlined
horizontal profile in the water. Proper trim is essential to reducing swimming
effort and gas consumption, making dives easier and more enjoyable.
Propulsion:

The Halcyon MC System is designed to significantly reduce the effort required to
move through the water not only by establishing proper trim, but also by
reducing drag on the diver.
Merely doubling the surface area of
one's BC results in a resistance that is four times as great and requires nearly
sixteen times more energy to move through the water. The Halcyon MC System
reduces drag by minimizing the diver's frontal area, resulting in greater
efficiency and ease of diving.
Life Support:
The
MC System provides divers with an integrated life support solution that
accommodates a variety of emergency and utility lift devices. Signaling,
lifting, and surface flotation can be stored "transparently" within the MC
System Storage Pak.
The Halcyon Secure Harness allows
for infinite adjustability, providing a perfect fit for all divers and diving
systems. Men or women diving wet or dry will find the Secure Harness is without
question the most stable and well-fitted design in the industry.

Halcyon Alternate Lift Devices

Lift devices are essential tools
for all diving activities ranging from recreational drift and salvage diving to
signaling and emergency flotation. Yet another unique Halcyon feature includes
the flexible manner in which a variety of lift devices can be integrated into
the Halcyon MC system, emphasizing diver safety and comfort.
Halcyon's
Supra® closed circuit lift bag,
Surf Shuttle®,
and/or Diver Alert
Markers belong on every drift, shore or wreck dive.
These devices are essential as
diving tools or life support devices and can each be used separately, or
seamlessly integrated into the Halcyon MC system. All innovative Halcyon lift
devices make excellent signaling devices on the surface and can be utilized as
supplemental flotation devices at depth.

The
Diver's Life Raft®
and Surf
Shuttle® are essential safety devices for any dive where currents or
distance could create a life-threatening separation from the dive boat.
From Cozumel to the Great Barrier
Reef, divers are at great risk should they become separated from their dive
boat. Including an alternative lift device like the
Halcyon Diver's
Life Raft is true life insurance for the DIR ocean diver.
Halcyon lift devices are designed
for minimum storage size and maximum efficiency. Store your alternative lift
device in a MC
Storage Pak, in a
thigh pocket, or on a rear D-ring. Transparent to the diver while stored,
but easily deployed should the need arise.
 | No more imprecise, inconvenient,
or risky inflation with a diver's regulator |
 | Inflatable at any depth, each
device can function as redundant buoyancy |
 | Inflate by disconnecting BC or
dry suit low pressure hose and inserting No-Lock® connector with fitting of
inflatable device, or add a second low pressure hose to your regulator's first
stage |
 | Orally inflatable in the event
that a diver's supply gas is depleted |

Halcyon Helios & Proteus
Lighting Systems
Since their introduction to the Halcyon product line in 2002, our
Helios®
NiMH canister lights have become the new standard for underwater
illumination. The advantages of NiMH have allowed Halcyon's design team to
realize improvements that border on science fiction-- but are solidly based on
today's technologies.
Canister size has been reduced
dramatically: the Helios 4.5 is not much larger than a D-cell flashlight, and
the Apollo 200w HMI underwater studio light is now driven by a canister only
slightly larger than our old Explorer Pro 6. The Helios 13 has been fitted with
our new 10w HID light head at the request of explorers pushing the limits of
cave exploration in Mexico-- we would never have believed that divers would
request a primary light with a 12 hour burn time! The stronger-than-steel Delrin
canisters are a work of art; although we rate the lights to five hundred
feet/152 meters, the canister itself has a theoretical depth rating of several
thousand feet.
Helios Features
 | Canisters are milled from a
solid rod of Delrin for exacting tolerances |
 | NiMH batteries provide more than
50% greater energy density than lead-acid counterparts, allowing light
canisters that are a fraction of the size of conventional lights |
 | Environmentally Green: contain
no cadmium, mercury, lead |
Proteus® Lighting Systems
Several
months into the testing of the Helios lights, Jarrod looked over at an Explorer
Pro 14 on the shelf and exclaimed that he couldn't believe that he'd spent so
many years lugging such a large canister to the far reaches of the world. It is
obvious that the rest of the diving world agrees: for extended range and
exploration diving, the Helios made the Explorer Pro series obsolete.
The stalwart Explorer Pro series
has been retired from the Halcyon catalog. Although the Explorer Pro 14 will
still be available by special order, the Explorer Pro 3, 4, and 6 lights are no
longer in the Halcyon line-up. For divers who want a traditional sealed lead
acid battery design, Halcyon now offers both the
Proteus 3
and Proteus 6 canister lights. Designed as our entry level 10w HID system,
the Proteus 3 provides a generous two hour burn time with a slim form factor.
The Proteus 6 lights are available with multiple lamp configurations, but with
the 18w HID it burns for two hours and is our most affordable high performance
cave and wreck system. Proteus canisters are milled to exacting tolerances from
a new high performance plastic that allows us to eliminate the bulkhead on the
battery pack.
 | Traditional sealed lead acid
batteries |
 | One piece canister maintains
maximum reliability |
All Halcyon Lights come
standard with the following:
 | Locking latches |
 | Hands-free Goodman handle
|
 | Stainless Steel Fittings
|
 | Lifetime warranty on canister
|
 | 110 or 220 volt charger
|
 | Depth rated to 500"/152m
|
Handle Options
All
Goodman handle-based lightheads are available with optional cold water or
exploration handles. The coldwater handle has an extra-large to accommodate the
use of dry gloves. The exploration handle includes a thumb-holder for use while
scootering and a handle-mounted mini-knife.
18 watt HID Lighthead
Halcyon's workhorse light, the 18watt HID, allows full adjustability and easy
bulb changes in a conventional test tube style design. Light output is similar
to a 75watt halogen light at a fraction of the power consumption.
10 watt HID Lighthead
Where innovation meets practicality. Halcyon's
fully closed light head (patent
pending) provides divers with a nearly indestructible light head that is
able to be adjusted from a laser-like beam to a diffuse soft light with the mere
twist of a dial.
