Thanks Paul for the SCUBA class...

... in 1983!

I recently started diving again, and was checking out articles about AT-PACS and was led to your web site, so I thought I would say HI!

My wife Donna and I certified with you (NASDS) in 1982/1983.  We worked at Honeywell just up the road.  You were the instructor for both our classes, about 3 months apart (November 1982 and February 1983), if I recall correctly.

Well, we moved to San Diego in 1984 "so we can dive "every" weekend!", which didn't quite work out :-)  We dove for another year or so, but then getting married, then the kids came along, jobs got crazy, and well, we both stopped diving for quite a few years, except for a fantastic trip to Turks and Caicos in 1993.

Well, this winter our youngest son (Gregory, 17) decided to do a SCUBA class for his high school senior project.  This was influenced in part by the subscriptions to the usual dive magazines that I've kept current for years, and the picture albums of us on the Bottom Scratcher and Sand Dollar...(Ya gotta keep the dream alive somehow!)

So, I went looking for a new dive shop here in San Diego.  I was looking for a shop that would remind me of Scuba Sciences:  friendly, helpful, "Safe" and a real community.  I picked SSI certification for us both as it seemed the natural follow-on to NASDS.

I found a wonderful small shop here in San Diego that is focused on education and community not moving inventory.

In other words, the closest thing to Scuba Sciences I could find here!

(San Diego Underwater Adventures, by the way.)

So, we're now SSI certified, and diving at least one weekend a month....

We're planning a family trip to Hawaii this Summer for 14 days of diving, and Greg and I are planning to take Nitrox and some other SSI specialty courses when we get back.  I think he's hooked!

And, this all started with Tom and Donna taking SCUBA classes from Paul at Scuba Sciences, about 25 years ago...

Thanks for you patience and thoughtful teaching, your wonderful diving community and all the fun dive trips.

Best wishes for continued success at Scuba Sciences!

Thanks again,

Tom P.

Thank you so much for the pictures and thank you again to you and Tina for all you did.  Tristan still is talking about it and can't wait for the next chance to scuba dive.

Are you serious about talking with his class if the teacher would want that?  I think it would be great.

Thanks again

Michelle

Hello Scuba Tina,
It has been nice for Dustin to get these emails from time to time as he really enjoyed being apart of the Scuba Ranger program. He has worn his Ranger shirts proudly ever since he earned them. Since leaving Phoenix we
have been to Huntsville Alabama, Vancouver Washington and now we have settled in Cocoa Florida. A few weeks ago Dustin and I signed up for Scuba classes at Spruce Creek Scuba Port Orange, Florida. We chose this shop because they are developing a Ranger program and I thought Dustin might relate to these folks and feel more at ease. Well we went through the class, our first dive was at Alexander Springs then we had our 4th & 5th open water dive at Pompano Florida (Shipwreck at 60' & a drift dive at 50'). This is the part of the story I wanted to tell you. Tina your training really made an impression on my son and I want to commend you for that. There were 23 people diving off that boat and my son and I had been looking forward to certifying together for 2 1/2 years. He made his entry and started down the dive line towards the wreck, he then motioned hand signals to the dive instructor that something was wrong and he was going back up. My first reaction was that he might have been a bit overwhelmed being so far out in the ocean and the greatness of the water. But I could not have been more wrong. He got back on the boat and was saying that his upper gum line was really hurting the further he went down. Having never heard of that I asked if he wanted to try the drift dive after giving it a rest for awhile, he really didn't want to, but I think I might have been pushing him to try, he tried after all, went down 6' and the pain flashed him again, at this point the boat had started to leave to drop more drift divers. The dive master motioned the boat and they picked Dustin up. Tina this is when Dustin said, Dad I am not comfortable diving and I was taught to respect that he said. Turns out that sinus problems can affect the gums and really hurt under certain conditions. I respect my son more then ever now, because with all the anticipation and pressure from me he knew to do the right thing even more so then I, and that was not to dive and that there will always be another dive. He learned that from your Ranger program and I thank you for that, (safety always comes first no matter what) The next week he joined another class and Dustin completed his certification (Dive card #678358) and we are doing a reef dive this weekend at Jupiter inlet just north of Miami. Thank you for all that you taught my son and for the great job that I know you do each and every week with the Scuba Rangers.

I have attached a few pictures of Dustin Diving.
Thanks again,
Jay S.

Tina,

Again, I want to thank you for the great fun my daughter and I had on Saturday during Scuba Rangers.  You did an outstanding job with the kids and I hope I can do the same when I'm able to instruct a course on my own.

Paul,

Thank you so much for your patience, understanding, and guidance on the dive trip.  You were right when you said that diving is a better experience if you connect with the people in the shop.  I know to me Scuba Sciences, Inc. is a 2nd home and I look forward to a continued relationship.  Diving is a blast.  Thank you!

Fiji Adventure

Dear Paul,

We wanted to tell you that we really enjoyed the trip August 22nd to Fiji.  We wanted to commend you on a couple of your employees.  Blaine really made our travel easy, especially when we had a problem with our check-in at the airport.  He was there to straighten out the problem and we really appreciated his extra efforts.  We must also recognize Karen for her FANTASTIC job she did on the trip!  She was concerned about everyone and made sure every dive ran smooth.  She made the trip enjoyable and we will always remember the fantastic trip to Fiji!

Hats off to Scuba Sciences' and their staff!  We look forward to another trip with you!

Sincerely,

Don & Debbie P.

4-Day Mexico Trip

Dear Paul, Pablo, Kevin & Jamie,

A special thanks to each of you for the time, patience, and encouragement to get thru the training.  It's wonderful to have overcome deep water fears and now I might try swimming again.

Bill is anxiously planning our next trip - while I'm stocking up on nausea medicine.

I am highly recommending your shop and the excellent instructors.

Thanks again!!
