Buoyancy Control System
If a regulator is the heart of a scuba system, the buoyancy compensator is the
backbone. It's also one of the most important pieces of gear a diver will
ever own. The BC not only offsets changes in a diver's buoyancy, but also
secures the scuba tank, spreads its load, provides storage compartments and
attachment points for accessories, and in most cases even carries dive weights.
A well-engineered BC allows the diver to float comfortably on the surface,
and facilitates quick, precise, easy changes in underwater diving
positions. Equally important, it will conform closely to the diver's body
to minimize drag and swim effort, while delivering a comfortable,
non-restrictive fit.
The most important feature of a BC is its lift capacity. The BC should
have enough lift to hold not only the diver on the surface, but his cylinder,
weights and regulator as well! A good rule of thumb is the amount of lift
should be at least twice the amount of weight you would ever carry. For
instance, a diver needs 22 pounds of lead to sink. This diver should have
a BC with a minimum of 44 pounds of lift! Without the proper amount of
lift, this diver would have to tread water and struggle at the surface!
Choose a BC that will fit not only your budget, but your diving needs as
well. Get one BC that will work for your diving destination, both
temperate and
warm water!
When you purchase your new BC from Scuba Sciences (authorized dealers), you
will receive the first year's BCP service free (a $30 value). We support
those companies that offer the best warranties for you, our customers.

Halcyon Eclipse Buoyancy
Compensators
Halcyon's reputation is built on its dedication to
innovation and quality. Divers from around the world turn to us for their
gear because of a simple formula that we've always followed:
Dive, design, prototype, dive, refine, dive, build, dive.
Repeat as necessary.
Our
latest creation? The Halcyon Eclipse wing. Think of it as a Pioneer wing
gone to the gym. Halcyon builds the Eclipse's outer shell from 1680-denier
ballistic nylon. We then add an inner bladder constructed from the same
puncture-resistant 400-denier Nylon inner-bladder material used in the
Explorer. In other words, the Eclipse is a low profile, exploration-grade
wing that leaves all other single tank designs in its shadow. Streamlined.
Rugged. Another example of Halcyon taking the game to the next level.
The Eclipse wings share the Pioneer's long, narrow, wing
profile to support the diver's tank along his or her entire length,
preventing unnecessary drag and minimizing effort. A circular zipper around
the inside of the wing allows for easy inspection and replacement of the
interior bladder.
A choice of lift capacities helps to maximize
comfort and streamlining while accounting for various buoyancy requirements
that result from differences in tank size, exposure protection, or equipment
requirements.
Eclipse wings require a single tank adapter
to mount with your Secure Harness backplate system. Pioneer wings continue
to utilize Halcyon’s adapter-free design and only require a set of Halcyon
cam straps for mounting.
Eclipse wings are available in 30 and 40 lbs
lift capacities. All Eclipse wings are CE-certified for sale in the European
Community.
All Halcyon wings now come with our newly designed precision-flow inflator.
The internal components and buttons are 316 stainless steel. Halcyon’s
inflator provides a controlled low-volume air flow to allow the diver to
fine tune their buoyancy and resist freezing in extremely cold conditions.
The Halcyon inflator is another Halcyon innovation that will only be found
on Eclipse, Pioneer, and Explorer wings. |

Halcyon Pioneer Buoyancy
Compensators

Pioneer Buoyancy Compensators
are specifically designed for single tank use, facilitating streamlining and
diving ease with the our standards-setting narrow wing design.
- Specially designed buoyancy
incorporates a built-in single tank adaptor welded into the "backbone" of
the Pioneer wing
- No more separate pieces--
wings now rest inches closer to the diver.
- Ultimate streamlining and
convenience
Pioneer Buoyancy Compensators
are specifically designed for single tank use, facilitating streamlining and
diving ease through our unique narrow wing design Halcyon
Pioneer wings incorporate an integrated single tank mounting system,
eliminating the need for a separate single tank adapter (patent pending).
This unique feature, available only from Halcyon, is the ultimate low
profile single tank system for recreational diving or travel. Three
different lift capacities maximize comfort and streamlining while accounting
for various buoyancy requirements that result from differences in tank size,
exposure protection, or equipment requirements.
Pioneer 27 Wings
The immensely popular 27 lbs. wing is ideally suited for diving in tropical
to temperate waters where moderate exposure protection and neutrally buoyant
tanks are commonly used. The 27 lbs. wing utilizes a circular buoyancy tube
to prevent air from being trapped in one side of the wing.
Pioneer 36 and 45 Wings
The 36 lbs. wing is designed for use in cold water where heavy exposure
protection with steel cylinders is the norm. Bellowed side panels on the 36
lbs. wing increase lift at the waist, improving trim for those wearing heavy
weight belts. Like the 27 lbs. wing, the 36 lbs. wing also features a
circular buoyancy tube for ultimate stability in the water.
The Pioneer 45 wing is
specifically designed for extreme cold water use or where lift must be
capable of offsetting unusual amounts of applied ballast. This system is not
recommended for typical recreational diving.

All Halcyon
wings now come with our newly designed precision-flow inflator. The internal
components and buttons are 316 stainless steel. Halcyon’s inflator provides
a controlled low-volume air flow to allow the diver to fine tune their
buoyancy and resist freezing in extremely cold conditions. The Halcyon
inflator is another Halcyon innovation that will only be found on Eclipse,
Pioneer, and Explorer wings. |
Halcyon Explorer Buoyancy
Compensators
Halcyon offers the Explorer
wing for double tank diving . The Explorer wings are available in three lift
capacities to satisfy various buoyancy requirements, and are able to
accommodate a wide range of tank sizes, exposure protection, and equipment
requirements. Halcyon explorer wings are available in 40 lbs., 55 lbs., and
70 lbs. lift capacities.
Explorer
wings have been slightly modified for even greater streamlining and
efficiency. The new Explorer wing is slightly narrower and longer, with a
reduced buoyancy tube behind the neck to minimize heads-up trim. In
addition, the inflator elbow is now located in the back center of the wing
to eliminate hitting the tank neck during full inflation.
Halcyon's Explorer wing is
still made from the most rugged materials available for a buoyancy
compensator. The 400 denier nylon bladder has a tighter weave and is
therefore more puncture resistant than a broad weave. The Explorer's 1680
ballistic nylon outer shell is designed for maximum abrasion resistance. The
two materials used together offer the best protection from damage in any
wing design.
-
Heavy-duty
zipper has a three-inch wide strip of Cordura to prevent zipper chaff on
the inner bladder
-
Two-inch
webbing-reinforced backbone construction
-
"Trap-door"
drainage system allows water to drain rapidly from the outer cover to
minimize excess weight and diver effort reboarding the dive boat
-
Inflator elbow
strain relief constructed from two-inch nylon webbing minimizes wear on
this connection
-
Narrower,
elongated construction improves streamlining and trim
-
Relocated
corrugated hose eliminates stress from impact with tanks
-
All Explorer
wings are CE-certified for sale in the European Community

The Explorer wings can be mated
with either the Halcyon hard-coated aluminum or six pound stainless steel
backplate, providing divers with a variety of weighting solutions. The 40
lbs. Explorer wings provide a minimalist approach to buoyancy where double
aluminum 80s and a wetsuit are the rig of choice. The widely popular 55 lbs.
Explorer wings are ideally suited for use with situations requiring
additional lift such as with heavy double steel tanks.
The 70 lbs. Explorer wing is
designed specifically for heavier steel tanks and multiple stages where
divers are unable to attain proper lift from the Explorer 55 lbs. wing.

All Halcyon
wings now come with our newly designed precision-flow inflator.

BC Trim
Weighting Systems
Active Control Ballast

Ditch that cumbersome weight
belt and discover the benefits of the Halcyon MC's Active Control Ballast
(patent pending).
Available in three
configurations-- ACB 30 (15 lbs./side), ACB 20 (10 lbs./side), and ACB 12 (6
lbs./side).
-
Side release
buckle prevents accidental weight loss and allows the diver or dive buddy
to quickly release and/or replace part or all of their ballast as the need
requires
-
Popular with
instructors who are sensitive to the complete loss of a diver's weight and
who resist integrated weights that prevent practicing emergency weight
removal
-
Divers
experiencing buoyancy problems can release part of their weight,
eliminating a rapid ascent from the loss of an entire weight belt
-
Stainless steel
buckle and two-inch webbing allows attachment and quick release of a small
canister light on ACB 30
-
Warm water
divers not encumbered by thick gloves or not interested in attaching a
canister light may prefer the streamlined ACB 20 or ACB 12, which utilize
a side release buckle acting as both the release mechanism and weight
handle.

Tank-mounted Trim Weight Kit
More
than half of all diving fatalities occur at the surface. Sadly, most divers
believe that jacket-style BCs provide proper surface floatation when, in
fact, a divers surface position principally relates to their weight
distribution. A nearly empty aluminum cylinder will usually float an
unconscious diver face-down regardless of the BC worn. However, the Halcyon
Trim Weighting Kit promotes heads-up surface airway protection by
counteracting the positive tendency of buoyant cylinders.
-
Shifting weight
from a diver's waist toward their center, such as with a stainless Halcyon
Backplate or trim weight system, facilitates horizontal diver trim and
reduces drag
-
Up to five
pounds of weight can be attached to your tank with each streamlined trim
weight pocket
V-Weights
Explorers
have utilized this unique weighting system for years, yet the inconvenient
nature of its construction has made it all but unavailable in the dive
community. Now available from Halcyon, this integrated weight system allows
double tank divers to reduce the need for bulky hip weights. The V-Weight
mounts between manifolded cylinders to provide precise weighting, allowing
you to carry the minimum removable weight to facilitate a swimming ascent.
Available in 11 lbs. and 8 lbs.
sizes
Weighted Single Tank Adapter
Yet
another tool that allows you to get weight off your weight belt, the Halcyon
Weighted Single Tank Adapter provides six pounds of non-releasable ballast
between you and your single cylinder rig. The Weighted STA works with all
Halcyon backplate designs. The Weighted STA is pictured above on the left,
in comparison to our standard STA.
