Additional Expenses:

1.  Textbooks and Materials

Textbooks & materials are not included with course fees since many divers choose to take class with a friend, spouse or co-worker.  This gives divers the choice of sharing a set of textbooks or purchasing their own.  One complete set of textbooks are approximately $92.76 plus tax, and includes textbook, study guide questions, 1 waterproof dive table chart, 1 waterproof air consumption calculation slate (exclusive to SSI Basic Ocean Diving Courses), and a Scuba Sciences' dive flag sticker.  Students can share a set of textbooks with other students however, each person will need a logbook ($20, or $39 depending on the style of logbook you choose).  In an effort to help keep the textbook costs down, the A/V videos and DVD's are available separately for those divers who want to purchase them.

2.  Open Water Certification Trip

Once you have successfully completed your Basic Ocean Diving Classes, Pool sessions, Lake Snorkeling Activity, and have completed your test and chapter homework, you are eligible  to choose an Ocean Certification Trip.  Ocean Certification Trip must be completed within 6 months of completing the Ocean Diving Course.  You may choose from a two or three day weekend to California, four day weekend to San Carlos or an International trip to the Bahamas or Bonaire!

3.  Referral Certifications

A Referral Customer Service Sheet

If you are not able to make a Scuba Sciences' Ocean Certification Trips, you can make arrangements for a referral certification.  Referral certifications are when you complete your ocean certification course, pool training, and lake snorkel here with Scuba Sciences, then complete your Ocean Dives at a resort destination such as Florida, Hawaii, Cozumel, etc.  There is a $110 referral fee (plus tax) which includes paperwork, certification card, additional pool classes, and assistance in arranging your referral.  Take a look at the preferred Referral Partners.

The Ocean Scuba Course must be completed fully prior to issuing a referral (all 10 classroom sessions, 6 pool sessions, lake snorkeling activity, homework, test and 1 additional pool session).  Referrals are valid for 30 days only.  When you return from your referral certification dives, you bring your paperwork back to Scuba Sciences, Inc. where your certification card will be issued.

4.  Equipment

As everyone has different sized faces, hands & feet, and people have different preferences, students are required to provide their own Snorkeling Equipment (mask, prescription lenses (if needed), fins, snorkel, boots, gloves, anti-fog solution and equipment bag).  We offer a minimum of 10-20% discount to our students when their purchase their snorkeling or scuba equipment.  This discount is valid while you are enrolled in any of our scuba courses.  Talk with us about different options for equipment!

Divers need to make sure the equipment they are considering will work for the type of scuba diving they will complete.  We are highly trained in helping our customers select equipment that will meet your preferences, diving needs and budget!  In fact, most equipment is available for a "test dive" before you purchase!  This will allow you to try different types of equipment before deciding!

Thank you for your interest in Scuba Sciences' Ocean Diving Courses!  If you have any further questions, please contact us!  We look forward to serving all of your scuba diving needs!
